Messed about with some polypaint on my dragon sculpt today. Didn't spend too long, definitely shows as its pretty messy, but just wanted to have some fun.

"What about their legs?'
"...They dont need those....."
Watched The Hobbit this past week, twice. Loved it just as much as i remember loving the book when i read it years ago. Felt super inspired afterwards with how amazing the creature models, the trolls, goblins, orcs were all fantastic.
Had to have a go at making a goblin of my own. Here is a sculpt and polypaint I worked on past couple days.

Studio Render
Had an old studio lighting setup, so I imported the dragon and messed about with a render. Still need to get better about rendering and lighting setups. But this was about 10 minutes rendering time, and the same amount of time in photoshop messing about with levels, and color balance. It would probably take a lot longer if I upped the sampling on it, but I get impatient, and rather be sculpting more cool things instead of rendering.
I need better ways to render and show off my work, in less time. The final image is what counts, but I haven't figured out the best workflow that I like for getting an image result I like. This is close, but lacks a lot of the sharpness I'd like to get more of.

Rough Week.
It's been really tough this past week, between caring for my dad, and everyday him getting a little bit worse and not getting much rest and nothing but worry about what is still to come....I've been able to get some sculpting in, and that has been my escape. I've noticed I've been sculpting green dudes....and this one, as with most of my stuff is still a wip. Working on making a cool reminder to myself, and there is no better inspiration, than master yoda himself.
So work in progress....a lesson that always applies to art and learning and growth as a human.

Update
Here's an update of that creature that I started a couple weeks ago. Figuring out skin texture and folds. Liking how he is progressing along. Hoping to finish him up soon.
Here's another creature speed sketch I did recently based on another one of my friends awesome drawings. This one could use a lot of work.

Creature
Based this one of a sketch by my good friend and co-worker Kynan Pearson. When he's not being a boss and handling business as lead on Halo multiplayer, he has been sketching a bunch of rad creatures and been making me want to sculpt them all!
Been kinda sick today, and wasn't able to get to visit my dad in the hospital because I didn't want to risk getting him sick, so I got some time to just sit and sculpt.
Here's the sketch
And my current wip, I'm working on getting things done faster. Need to find a quick way to get believable fur. I'm really happy with where I got this guy today. Definitely going to finish him up, and might consider getting him 3D printed.
Torso Study
Here is a torso study I have been messing around with this past week. Lots of real life stuff to deal with, but still trying to find time to sculpt. Im working on trying to be faster and make more meaningful decisions with my work. Many times I'll just keep on tweaking things and lose sight of the overall goal and picture.
More to come!

Studies
Been working on taking a step back to the basics and really increasing my knowledge of anatomy and planar forms. Here's a head study I worked on over the weekend using some reference sculpture I have.
Next things will be torso and arm studies, then on to legs, hands and feet. Then I'll put em together with a nice render.

True to myself...
I constantly am working, sculpting, practicing new things, learning. Never feeling satisfied with my progress, however I never update or post most of the things I create. I believe this is starting to hurt me and how I work, and how I feel about the work I do. I am the only one holding myself back from the quality of work I want to achieve. This blog will be the place for me to explore the ideas that are constantly running through my brain and track the progress made, something that I should have been doing for a long time now. Working on things in secret or in fear of judgement, doesn't help me grow or learn as an artist, and it doesn't keep me accountable in anyway...this blog is intended to finally change that mentality....
As a kickstart to this, here are some of the things that I have been working on this past year...in varying states of finish. Mainly creature things since that's what I love to think about when I'm not working on levels.
